Animal lovers were dancing for dogs and chowing down for cats at the Ottawa Humane Society's Fur Ball fundraiser Saturday night.
The eighth annual gala went with a Bollywood theme this year, hoping to raise $175,000 to support the society's work.
"I think dressing up is wonderful, having a fabulous meal, getting together with friends and seeing the parade of dogs, we always love that," said Celeste Irvine Jones. "It's just a lovely event to do and it's fun that it raises money as well."
"This year we're really focused on our clinic," said Bruce Roney with the society. "In our new facility the clinic is much larger and we're doing a whole lot more work for animals."
More than 11,000 animals pass through the Ottawa Humane Society every year, with some being fostered or adopted by honourary chair Laureen Harper.
"Having had pets before, this is a great way for the Humane Society to raise money and sustain its programs," said Peter Sawras.
"We're dog owners and supporters of the Ottawa Humane Society, it's an event that needs to be supported to raise the public conscience about the Humane Society and it's a fun night out," said Chris Jones.
Last year's event raised around $170,000.
