A former Roman Catholic bishop who is charged with possessing child abuse images will be back in an Ottawa courtroom on Friday to ask a judge to change his bail conditions.

Raymond Lahey, 69, is expected to ask for permission to reside at an Ottawa monastery, as opposed to one in New Brunswick.

Lahey faces charges for allegedly possessing and importing child pornography. The charges have not been proven in court.

Lahey was charged after images were found on a laptop by customs agents at the Ottawa Airport.

He was released on bail with strict conditions on Oct. 1, and is not allowed to use the Internet or be near children.

Lahey recently served as the bishop of a Nova Scotia diocese until resigning from his post in late September.
