BELLEVILLE, Ont. - There's a call out for volunteers in the Municipality of Trent Hills, east of Peterborough, as sandbagging operations kick into high gear.

A state of emergency was declared Wednesday by Mayor Hector MacMillan as water levels on the Trent and Crowe rivers continue to rise.

MacMillan says close to 100 homes are surrounded by water, and up to 700 homes and 1,400 properties could ultimately be affected.

Trent Hills has also imposed an outdoor burning ban to relieve firefighters of calls to nuisance fires while they're busy filling sandbags.

To the southeast in the Foxboro area, waters continue to slowly recede on the Moira River, but a state of emergency remains in effect.

Quinte West has decided not to declare a state of emergency as the Trent River floodwaters didn't rise as high as expected.
