Natalie MacLean's Wines of the Week for Feb. 21, 2017
Veneto D.O.C., Italy
Dark and robust with a seductive nose. Fleshy ripe black fruit aromas and smoky notes. Decant 1 hour. Incredibly concentrated and deeply flavoured, this classic Ripasso finishes with signature black cherry, leather, mocha and spice. Try it with spicy Italian sausages or pepperoni pizza.
Upper Galilee, Israel
A smooth, full-bodied, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Israel's best winemaking regions. Lusciously flavourful with aromas of fleshy black plums and blackberries. Some smoke on the finish. Pair with a juicy steak.
Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario VQA, Canada
Lovely and refreshing with lime lift acidity for shellfish. Green apple and grapefruit notes.
Margaret River, West Australia, Australia
A full-bodied white wine that's rich and buttery with some smoke on the nose from generous oak aging. Supple, layered and tasty. Great price. Try with seafood pasta in a cream sauce or roast chicken or turkey.
Sweetness: Extra Dry
An extraordinary long-lived German Riesling. Made in the sweet style of Auslese, this is now showing caramelized aromas of flavour of burnt toffee. Lovely.
