Emergency officials say a 40-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a dump truck while riding her bike near River Road and Doyle Road in Manotick Saturday morning.
Paramedics say they received the call just after 11 a.m. The cyclist was pronounced dead when they arrived.
Bystanders are being treated for shock. Witnesses say some have fainted after witnessing the tragic incident and learning of the news.
CTV News has learned the victim was taking part in the annual Ride the Rideau event when this happened.
Sources say the rest of the event has been cancelled.
Ottawa police are investigating.
