The nine people arrested after a seven-hour standoff at the Minto Suites Hotel Sunday morning will appear in court Monday, reports say.
Five women and four men barricaded themselves inside a room at 185 Slater Street, police say, where a party was taking place inside the ritzy hotel.
Nearby rooms were evacuated as negotiations between police and the people inside the third-floor room continued for the next seven hours. The incident ended when police forced themselves into the room.
All were taken into custody and police recovered a gun from the scene.
"This doesn't mean that we're going to have nine people charged," says Paul Gallant of the Ottawa police. "We have nine people that were in a room. We have to sort out through this event. We have to consult with witnesses, and so forth."
Police say alcohol was a factor in the incident, but add there didn't appear to be hostages involved.
Part of Slater Street and an adjacent mall were closed during the incident, but re-opened by 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
No injuries were reported. The Ottawa police guns and gangs unit is investigating.
