Parents of young kids who bring strollers on the bus will be at the centre of a debate next week, as the city considers restricting strollers brought on city buses.

The baby carriages take up too much space, and cause hurdles for seniors and disabled residents, critics argue.

Although city council previously backed down on the issue, Ottawa's transit committee will hear out the recommendations from two groups next week.

Ottawa's seniors' advisory committee wants parents with strollers to be moved to the bottom of the priority-seating list on OC Transpo buses.

The accessibility committee is pushing for strollers to be folded up and placed out of the way at all times.

Coun. Alex Cullen, who chairs the transit committee, says it will be a tough decision to make.

However, those who need wheelchairs or walkers to get around the city, say the decision is easy.

Ray Deschamps needs his walker when he rides the bus. He says he's fed up with competing for space on public transit.

Meanwhile, parents who depend on the bus say any policy restricting strollers will make their lives difficult, possibly discouraging them from taking the bus.

The transit committee is expected to make a decision on the issue on Wednesday.
