Ottawa taxpayers are one step closer to getting taxed for the city's new green bin composting program.
A city committee voted Tuesday to charge each resident who qualifies for the program $68 on an annual basis.
The city is also considering a $41-fee for the current blue and black box recycling program.
The proposal will have to be passed by one more committee before city council gets a chance to vote on the issue in December.
If approved, Ottawa taxpayers will be billed $195 for curb-side pickup, including garbage collection.
The green bin program is scheduled to start in January 2010.
