Investigators say a 6-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after a crash on Highway 417 last night.

The OPP have charged a 31-year-old man, Wesley Moher, of North Grenville, after the collision near the Pinecrest exit.

Police say a pick-up truck was driving at a high speed when it hit a car and SUV. The SUV spun and flipped onto its side and a 6-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle.

An off duty OPP officer witnessed the crash and followed the pick-up after it failed to stop at the scene.

The child suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition. He was the only person involved in the crash that wasn't wearing a seatbelt. His parents and 3 other children, including a 1-year-old boy, were all bucked-in the SUV and suffered minor injuries.

Moher is charged with failing to remain at the scene of the crash, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to provide a breath sample and with having an open container of liquor. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
