KINGSTON, Ont. -- Three stranded boaters have been rescued after CFB Trenton sent a military search and rescue helicopter to pluck them from an island in Lake Ontario.
An official at the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at the base says the men called at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 after their vessel broke down near the Brother Islands in the Kingston area.
The men, who are believed to have set out in their boat earlier Monday, were able to make it to one of the islands and started a fire to keep warm.
Officials say a Griffon helicopter picked up the men at about 1 p.m. and took them to Norman Rogers Airport in Kingston.
The men did not require any medical treatment.
