Ontario Provincial Police say speed appears to be a factor in a fatal snowmobile crash that killed an 18-year-old Almonte boy Sunday night.
Police say the collision occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on Sunday in Mississippi Mills, about 50 kilometres west of Ottawa.
The victim, Taylor Bruce, was driving his snowmobile on Camelon Road when he collided with a telephone pole. He had just bought his used snowmobile earlier that day.
"It's so hard . . . He was such a good kid," said friend Briar Carisse.
"He loved his snowmobile; he just got it yesterday morning. And I don't know what to say about that."
Friends say buying the snowmobile was all Bruce could talk about. Although he was riding with a friend, he was the only one involved in the collision.
Bruce was months away from graduating from Almonte District High School, where grief counsellors were brought in to help staff and students deal with their loss on Monday morning.
Friends have now created a memorial at the crash site, leaving roses and notes behind.
Police are continuing their investigation into the collision.
