42 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Wednesday, active cases drop below 600
Ottawa Public Health reported 42 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Wednesday, the fifth straight day with double-digit case numbers.
One new death was announced linked to novel coronavirus.
Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, 2020, there have been 27,139 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 572 deaths.
Ottawa's key COVID-19 indicators continue to decline, with the weekly incidence rate falling to 37.5 cases per 100,000 people. The positivity rate was 3.9 per cent for the period of May 26 to June 1
The 42 new cases in Ottawa on Wednesday follows 39 cases on both Monday and Tuesday.
Across Ontario, there are 733 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. There are 173 new cases in Toronto, 134 in Peel Region and 69 in York Region.

Ottawa entered Ontario's COVID-19 stay-at-home order at 12:01 a.m. April 8. The stay-at-home order ended at 12:01 a.m. June 2.

- Total doses received in Ottawa: 604,790 (Ottawa received 103,120 doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines this week)
As of Wednesday, 64 per cent Ottawa residents 18 and older had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

HOSPITALIZATIONS IN OTTAWA
Ottawa Public Health reported 32 people in Ottawa hospitals with COVID-19 related illnesses on Wednesday, down from 35 on Tuesday.
There are six people in the ICU.

There are 598 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Wednesday, down from 635 active cases on Tuesday.
OPH reported that 78 more people recovered after testing positive for COVID-19. The total number of resolved cases of coronavirus in Ottawa is now 25,969.
The number of active cases is the number of total laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 minus the numbers of resolved cases and deaths. A case is considered resolved 14 days after known symptom onset or positive test result.

COVID-19 TESTING IN OTTAWA
The Ottawa COVID-19 Testing Taskforce reported 1,263 swabs were processed at assessment centres in Ottawa on May 31.
A total of 2,489 lab tests were performed in Ottawa on Monday.
The average turnaround from the time the swab is taken at a testing site to the result is 15 hours.

As of April 7, two cases of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member of a long-term care home, retirement home with an with an epidemiological link, within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the facility is considered an outbreak in a long-term care home or retirement home. One laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a staff member or resident of other institutions such as shelters, group homes, is considered an outbreak. In childcare settings, two children or staff or household member cases of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 within a 14-day period where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the childcare establishment is considered an outbreak in a childcare establishment.
