Ottawa paramedics treated two people for smoke inhalation following a house fire on Brockington Crescent, in the Nepean area.

Fire crews also managed to rescue a dog, two lizards, a cat, and three snakes.  Two birds passed away in the fire.

Firefighters used a special oxygen mask to give oxygen to the dog and to one of the lizards.

Firefighters were called to a town home at 90 Brockington Crescent shortly before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, fire crews determined the fire was in the kitchen, and quickly brought it under control.

Paramedics treated a 19-year-old woman for smoke inhalation. She was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

They also treated a 21-year-old man for smoke inhalation. He is in stable condition.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
