More than 100,000 people across Ontario are still without power after ferocious winds caused extensive damage across the province. Some areas of eastern Ontario could be without power until Saturday night.

More than 135,000 Hydro One customers in Ontario were still without power Friday morning. In Ottawa, about 16,000 customers didn't have power Friday morning. That number is now down to 3,000.

Hydro Ottawa says the damage to its distribution system is extensive, and more hydro poles were damaged in Thursday's storm than during the 1998 ice storm.

The agency says more than 46,000 customers lost power during the peak of the storm. Crews estimate it may take up to two days to restore power to all customers in the city.

The largest areas in Ottawa still without power Friday morning included: Casselman, the area around Smyth and Russell Road, Montreal Road and St. Laurent Boulevard, Rockcliffe Park and rural Kanata.

Meanwhile, residents in some areas near Prescott, Brockville and the Thousand Islands might not have power back until Saturday night, according to Hydro One's website.

Repairs of a different sort are happening on roofs damaged by the storm, and local roofing companies are having a hard time keeping up.

"We've had so many calls, e-mails, faxes . . . we haven't even had time to count them yet," said Don Mann with Sanderson Roofing.

"We're getting to them as fast as we can but we can't do everybody as quickly as we'd like to."
