The province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal crash near Smiths Falls that claimed the life of an 18-year-old.
The fatal collision happened just before 8:30 p.m. on May 19 on Kitley Line 2 outside Smiths Falls.
Police say an OPP officer was travelling southbound on County Road 17 when he spotted a speeding car in the northbound lane. Shortly after the office turned around and started following the car, it drove off the road and into nearby trees.
Police say the 18-year-old driver was ejected from his vehicle upon impact and was transported to Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The SIU has designated one subject officer as part of this investigation. Four investigators, two forensic investigators, and two collision re-constructionists have been assigned to this incident.
