A Muslim school in Ottawa’s west end has the highest academic performance ranking in the city for the last school year, according to the Fraser Institute. Its annual report card on Ontario’s elementary schools was released Sunday morning.
The Fraser Institute ranked more than 2,000 public, French and Catholic elementary schools in the province using data collected from annual province-wide testing of reading, writing and math for students in Grade 3 and Grade 6.
Ottawa’s top ranked school is Abrarr Private School which scored 9.4 out of 10.
Other top Ottawa schools include Katimavik Elementary School in Kanata which scored 9.0, Hilson Avenue Public School which scored 8.9 and La Source in Orleans which scored 8.7.
Ottawa schools with the lowest ranking include Le Trillium in Vanier with a 0.6, Glen Cairn Public School in Kanata with a 2.2 and Charles H. Hulse Public School with a 2.6.
Around Eastern Ontario, Arnprior's John XXIII Separate School scored 10.0, Winston Churchill Public School in Kingston scored 9.3, and Our Lady of Fatima Separate School in Renfrew scored 8.7.
The Ottawa school with the most improved scores is St. Thomas More Catholic School which climbed from 5.7 in 2007-08 to 8.3 in 2011-2012.
