TORONTO - Ontario Provincial Police will not lay charges after an investigation into allegations of physical and sexual abuse at a former private school near Brockville.
Grenville Christian College, which was run by Anglican priests, closed last year.
The Globe and Mail is reporting that police have decided after consultations with the Crown that charges are not in the public interest.
The allegations of sexual and physical abuse extend to the late 1970's, and at least two lawsuits have been launched by former students.
Loretta Merritt, a Toronto lawyer representing some of the students, says her clients are obviously disappointed, but won't be deterred from seeking justice.
A spokesman for the Ministry of the Attorney General says it's unlikely any explanation will be forthcoming as to why charges won't be laid.
