An elderly woman had a huge shock Friday after a garbage truck drove into her garage door.

Luciana Nardi, 80, was watching television at the time. She was not hurt. Relatives quickly arrived to offer comfort to the recent widow.

“She's really shaken up,” said Emilia Cefaloni, a relative.

Ottawa Paramedics report garbage truck drove into a house on Karsh Drive near Southland Crescent at around 1:35p.m. Friday afternoon.

“Approximately the whole cab of the truck has taken out one of the exterior walls, which basically ripped the hydro meter off the wall,” said Sgt. Marc Messier, Ottawa Fire Services. “The only damages we're looking at besides the structural damage is water damage as a result of the toilet being knocked off its base, a little bit of flooding in the basement.”

Paramedics said the male driver, believed to be in his 30s, faced minor leg injuries after his truck collided with the single family home.

The man was conscious upon arrival of paramedics. He was sent to hospital and is now in stable condition.

Ottawa Police continue their investigation.
