CORNWALL, Ont. - A Cornwall, Ont., man who abandoned a puppy without food or water when he moved from his apartment has been banned for life from owning or caring for animals.

Brandon Wilson pleaded guilty last month to three animal cruelty counts -- including causing an animal to be in distress -- under the Ontario SPCA Act.

The Ontario SPCA says it received a report last August regarding a dog that had been abandoned in Wilson's apartment when he moved out.

The SPCA says a maintenance worker entered the apartment and found the "fearful, thin," six-month-old dog hiding inside the clothes dryer.

It says the dog -- named Marley -- was adopted by a family after making a full recovery following several months of rehabilitation.

Wilson also was ordered to surrender a new dog he'd acquired, pay $210 in restitution to the Ontario SPCA, and pay a $500 fine.
