One woman is dead and another garage destroyed after a number of fires across the region on Christmas Day.

OPP said an 86-year-old woman was found dead in her burned home about two hours west of Ottawa at 8 a.m. Sunday.

They said she lived alone on Round Lake Road in Killaloe and her identity will be confirmed after an autopsy.

Both the Office of the Fire Marshal in Ontario and the OPP's Killaloe Crime Unit are investigating, and anyone with information on this fire can call police at 1-888-310-1122.

In southern Ottawa, fire crews were called to a new home on 5531 Lombardy Drive in Osgoode around 6 p.m. Sunday.

They said they found smoke and flames coming from its garage, which suffered "extensive" damage.

There was no fire in the home, but it did see some smoke and water damage.

They said damage is estimated at $150,000, but there were no injuries.

Two more accidental fires were put out on Sunday; a candle fire which caused $30,000 damage to a home at 529 Sussex Drive around 3:30 a.m. and a kitchen fire at 83 MacKay Street that caused $15,000 damage around 6:30 p.m.
