PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Tyler Toffoli had a hat trick, including the winner 42 seconds into overtime, as the Ottawa 67's beat the Peterborough Petes 6-5 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.
Shane Prince had four assists for the 67's as they won a game that featured lots of wide-open, end-to-end hockey from teams that came into the game second and fourth in the Eastern Conference in fewest goals allowed.
Sean Monahan had a goal and three assists for Ottawa (9-3-1), which moved into a tie for first in the East with Mississauga. Steven Janes and Cody Ceci added singles.
Lino Martschini led the Petes (6-5-3) with a pair of goals. Slater Koekkoek, Dylan Fitze and Stephen Nosad also scored.
Ottawa led 4-2 after 40 minutes, but Peterborough scored three goals in a four-minute span of the third period to take the lead
Monahan scored at 11:15 of the third to send the game to overtime.
Petr Mrazek made 39 saves to get the win in net for the 67's. Andrew D'Agostini stopped 30 shots for the Petes.
Both teams were effective on the power play, Ottawa scoring on both their chances and the Petes scoring two goals in three man advantages.
