Two motorcycle drivers are fighting for their lives after separate crashes in the west end on Sunday.

Just after 5:30 pm, emergency crews were called to the intersection of Eagleson and Fernbank for a crashing involving a motorcycle and car. Paramedics say the 59-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was found in cardiac arrest. He was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The 47-year-old driver of the other vehicle involved was taken to hospital in stable condition. Eagleson and Fernbank were closed while police investigated, but both have since re-opened.

Then just after 7:00 pm, crews responded to a separate two car crash between a motorcycle and vehicle at Baseline and Clyde. Paramedics say the driver of the motorcycle was thrown off his bike and landed a great distance away. An off-duty paramedic officer was one of the first on scene. She administered care until other crews arrived.

The motorcyclist suffered significant head, chest and other injuries. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The elderly driver of the car involved was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The westbound lanes of Baseline were closed for a few hours while police conducted their investigation. The road was re-opened around 10:00 pm.

Police continue to investigate both crashes.
