Bikers and pedestrians enjoying the spring-like weather this weekend will have to take an alternate route on Monday if they choose to stroll by the Rideau Canal on the Colonel By Drive side.

Starting on that day, rehabilitation work will take place in a 150-metre stretch just west of the Bank Street Bridge and keep the area closed until at least the end of April.

Changes planned include repairs to Canal walls, pathway reconstruction and replacing railings and lamp posts.

Signs will be put up in the area advising path users to move to another spot -- preferably, the other side of the Canal along the Queen Elizabeth Driveway.
