Target, the American retail giant, has announced that it will open new locations in the capital region.

Target has identified eight former Zellers stores in Ottawa that might be converted into the popular American store. They will be among the 100 to 150 stores the chain will open in Canada by 2013.

Among those locations are the Zellers on Sparks Street, which has been open since 1932, and a store at Les Galeries Gatineau on Maloney Boulevard.

Other potential locations include possible stores at Bayshore Shopping Mall, St. Laurent Shopping Centre, Hazeldean Mall, Meadowlands Shopping Centre, Billings Bridge Plaza, Place d'Orleans, and the County Fair Mall in Smiths Falls.

There won't be any targets though at the Gloucester Centre or in Hawkesbury as Target transferred those leases to rival retailer Wal-Mart.
