An Ottawa gang member is facing various gun charges after a shooting in the parking lot of a mall in the city's south end earlier this week.

Mohamed Najdi, 22, is facing seven firearm-related charges, as well as a charge of breach of recognizance.

Najdi was arrested in connection with a shooting at Herongate Mall, located on Heron Road, on Wednesday night.

When police arrived at the scene, officers found a male victim with a bullet wound to his leg. His injuries were non-life-threatening.

Police later seized a loaded, sawed-off semi-automatic .22 caliber riffle at a nearby home.

Although police initially called the incident an attempted murder investigation, no attempted murder charges have been laid. However, police say their investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Ottawa police guns and gang unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS.
