Sunny and cold start to the weekend in Ottawa

The cold temperatures will continue in Ottawa through the weekend and into next week, which is good news for people hoping to skate on the Rideau Canal Skateway.

The National Capital Commission announced that the skateway will open to the public at 8 a.m. on Saturday, the earliest opening of the world's largest skateway since December 2018. The Rideau Canal Skateway will be open between Somerset Street and Bank Street.

Environment Canada's forecast calls for mainly sunny on Friday. High -7 C, with the wind chill making it feel like -10 this afternoon.

Increasing cloudiness tonight. Low -12 C with the wind chill making it feel like -15.

Cloudy on Saturday with a 60 per cent chance of light snow in the morning. High -7 C.

Sunday will see a mix of sun and cloud. High -5 C.

The outlook for Monday calls for cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. High -3 C.

Tuesday will be cloudy with a chance of flurries. High -6 C.

The long-range forecast from Environment Canada calls for overnight lows of -15 C on Tuesday and -17 C on Wednesday.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of -6 C and a low of -15 C.
