Crash involving transport trucks on Highway 401 led to congestion, two more collisions
One person was taken to hospital after their vehicle went into the ditch following congestion caused by an earlier collision involving two transport trucks Thursday afternoon on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Police say shortly after 3:30 p.m., they received a call reporting a collision involving two transport trucks on the highway in the westbound direction west of Mallorytown, causing congestion.
Police say due to the congestion, a second collision involving two other transport trucks and a car happened about half an hour later a short distance to the east.
After another half an hour, police received a call reporting a third collision, also caused by the congestion along the highway. The third crash involved one transport truck and a car. Both vehicles went into the ditch east of the second crash.
The driver of the car involved in the third collision was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police closed the westbound direction of Highway 401 “until it was determined the injuries were non-life-threatening.” It has has since re-opened.
“Charges are pending, and will be shared in a future update,” the OPP said on X Thursday.
