The Ottawa Senators ran out of time in a comeback attempt in Detroit as they fell 4-3 to the Red Wings.

The Ottawa Senators got off to a good start as Kyle Turris opened up the scoring early in the first period on a 5 on 3 advantage. The Detroit Red wings respond taking control of the period outshooting the Senators 18-7. Gustav Nyquist ties it up late in the period on the power play to tie it at 1-1 after one.

Early in the 2nd period the Red Wings gain momentum, as Riley Sheahan beats Craig Anderson with the rebound for another power play goal 2-1 Detroit. The Senators have a tough time matching the Wings energy level. Stephen Weiss scores back to back goals to close out the 2nd period, giving Detroit a 4-1 lead after 2.

The Ottawa Senators battled back in the 3rd period. Erik Karlsson gives the Senators some life early in the period. With 35 seconds left in the game, Mike Hoffman takes the shot, Chris Neil gets his stick on it for the deflection to trail 4-3. Patrick Wiercioch almost ties it up in the dying seconds with a shot from the point as Jimmy Howard grabs it out of the air. Detroit holds onto win 4-3.

Detroit outshot Ottawa 43-26. Craig Anderson made 39 saves for the victory. The Senators visit the St Louis Blues tomorrow in the 2nd game of a 5 game road trip.
