A second driver allegedly involved in a spectacular collision in Orl�ans last month has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm and street racing.
Ottawa police charged 24-year-old Martin Gregoire, alleged to have been driving a Mazda 3 on Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard on Aug. 13 with another vehicle.
Gregoire will appear in court on Oct. 9.
The other driver, a 17-year-old boy, has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He will appear in court on Oct. 6.
They both face the automatic loss of their driver's licence if convicted.
Police said the 17-year-old was racing his Honda Civic northbound on Jeanne D'Arc Boulevard at Orleans Boulevard when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a curb. The car hit three newspaper boxes, which flew through a nearby bus shelter.
The car continued for about 50-60 metres before it flipped. In the process, the vehicle hit a fence, sending debris into the air and causing damage to a gazebo, as well as siding on a nearby house.
His 16-year-old girlfriend, who was a passenger in the car, was hospitalized with a sore neck and back.
The vehicle was a complete write-off. Damage to the car and nearby property was estimated to be between $50,000 and $70,000.
The other driver fled the scene behind the wheel of a grey late-model Mazda 3 with chrome wheels.
