Police seize $6M worth of drugs in Ottawa, eastern Ontario

Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges against three people, including two suspects from Ottawa, after approximately $6 million worth of drugs, a firearm and other items were seized following a months-long investigation.

Police say a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement operation, dubbed Project Midfield, began in September. The investigation had been looking into drug trafficking activity in Ottawa and eastern Ontario with a connection to the Greater Toronto Area, according to an OPP news release on Monday.
On Nov. 27, police executed four search warrants at homes and vehicles in Ottawa and Milford.
Officers seized a combined 47 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 250 grams of suspected psilocybin and over 100 pounds of illicit cannabis.
Other seized items included:
- Five cell phones
- A money counter
- Drug trafficking paraphernalia, including packaging and a digital scale
- $6,810 in Canadian cash
- Two vehicles as offence-related property
- One firearm
- Five magazines with ammunition
- Body armour
A total of 39 charges were laid against three people. A 37-year-old man from Ottawa and a 22-year-old woman from Milford were charged with 18 offences relating to illegal possession of drugs, firearms and trafficking.
A 25-year-old from Ottawa was also arrested on three charges relating to possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking and distribution.
Two of the suspects remain in custody and one was released.
The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa at a later date.
