Police and fire officals from both sides of the Ottawa River called off their search Sunday afternoon for two missing Chinese unviersity students who were last seen in a small inflatable boat and are presumed dead.

A concerned passerby in the Britannia Beach area called police at about 6:00 p.m. Saturday as the men headed towards the Gatineau side of the river.

Police later got a call from people the men were supposed to meet up with, saying the pair hadn't shown up.

Police say the men's yellow rubber dingy was recovered east of the Deschnes Rapids. Rescue crewes scoured the river using boats and a plane. Officers on foot also hunted along the shoreline for the men.

It's believed one lifejacket was onboard the boat.

Both men were described as Asian, five foot nine, with medium builds. One was wearing glasses, a white T-shirt, multi-coloured Capri shorts, and has a "faux hawk" hairstyle. The other was wearing a black tank top and grey shorts.
