Gatineau's police chief says he has full confidence in the investigative abilities of his police force, and wants the public to keep coming forward with tips in the Valerie Leblanc murder case.

Gatineau Police Chief Mario Harel said the force is investigating every lead that has been brought forward, and he believes the appropriate resources have been assigned to the investigation.

"Since the beginning, since the first day of this case, we are working with our partners in law enforcements, mainly the Sûreté du Québec and other partners like the Ottawa police that were called and asked to put some info in," Harel told reporters at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.

"So we are not neglecting anything in that case to make sure we succeed in putting our hands on this perpetrator."

Harel wants the public to know his team is working hard to solve the case.

Leblanc, an 18-year-old CEGEP student, was found dead in a wooded area behind her junior college last week. Her body was badly beaten and burned.

Leblanc will be laid to rest on Wednesday. Out of respect for her family, Harel said police will not provide any updates on the murder case unless there is an important break that needs to be passed on to the public.

Police say they've received a lot of tips from the public so far, and they still want people to come forward with information.

The public is asked to access the Gatineau police Facebook page for updates. Anyone with information about Leblanc's death is asked to call a special hotline at 819-243-2346, ext. 6677.
