A pilot walked away from a two-seater plane crash into a south Ottawa field Wednesday evening.

Ottawa fire crews said they were called to the field near 2932 Mackey Road around 5:20 p.m., where a caller had reported a plane circling his home four times before trying an emergency landing.

A rural firefighter drove into the field and picked up the pilot, who was the only one inside and was walking towards the road.

The pilot told fire crews he had taken off in Arnprior and was en route to Smiths Falls when he had engine trouble.

He was taken to hospital to be checked for minor injuries, according to paramedics.
