Not that it's great patio weather, but when smokers do head outside they'll have fewer places to light up starting Monday.

Ottawa's new outdoor smoking bylaw comes into effect April 2, barring smoking at city properties like parks, beaches, and restaurant patios.

Bylaw officers will be giving warnings for the law's first three months, but starting July 2 anyone caught breaking the rule can be fined over $300.

The bylaw was approved by city council Feb. 22.
