Ottawa green bins can take in new materials after a provincial tribunal's decision.

Orgaworld, which handles the city's composting, said the tribunal decided it can now process dirty diapers, dog waste and plastic bags at its Ottawa plant.

However, their contract with the City of Ottawa says the municipal government has the final say in what materials it accepts, meaning these materials won't be accepted yet.

The city had opposed the move because of fears over the smells it would create.

Orgaworld said they want the city to keep all options open.
