The Ontario government is calling on parliament to re-think proposed changes to the Canadian Pension Plan, calling the decision not to expand the federal-backed plan a serious mistake.

For its part, the federal government has said the expansion isn't possible because not all provinces are on board.

Parliament is instead proposing a private sector plan for the self-employed and those working for small businesses.

Federal and provincial finance ministers are scheduled to discuss the future of the CPP next week.
