The Gatineau Olympiques rode a third-quarter surge to earn a single point in the standings before falling 5-4 in a shootout to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar Friday night.

Gatineau (18-18-4-4) opened the scoring 51 seconds into the first period on an unassisted goal from Alexander Soumakis, but the lead was short-lived.

Baie-Comeau (21-17-1-3) put up three straight from Jean-Francois Leblanc, Carl Gelinas and Jonathan Lessard before the end of the first period, two of those coming on the power play.

The only goal in the second came at the 9:52 mark from Drakkar winger Francis Turbide to stretch their lead to 4-1.

Gatineau then scored three goals from Emile Poirier, Kyle Morrison and Jacob Conrad (again, two on the power play) to tie the game.

They outshot the Drakkar 15-3 in the third period.

No goals were scored in overtime so it headed to a shootout, with the home Olympiques failing to match Samuel Carrier's second goal.

Philippe Cadorette stopped 27 shots for the win, while Francois Lacerte made 31 saves.
