Officials at the City of Ottawa say they don't plan on firing any employees as they continue to investigate why raw sewage was dumped into the Ottawa River at Petrie Island in the summer of 2006.

More than one million cubic metres of sewage was spilled into the river after a valve at a sewage treatment plant malfunctioned, closing the beach at Petrie Island for 45 days.

The City's manager Kent Kirkpatrick says the mistake won't happen again.

Kirkpatrick also says he wasn't informed of the circumstances until last week.
