Nine people are charged in connection with a weekend standoff at a hotel that closed a downtown street for several hours.
Five women and four men barricaded themselves inside a room at the Minto Suites hotel at 185 Slater Street on Sunday morning, where police say a party was taking place.
After seven hours of negotiations, police forced themselves into the third-floor room at about 10:45 a.m.
Police say eight people exited the room without incident. A ninth person was arrested when he was found hiding in a bedroom in the unit. Investigators also recovered a gun from the scene.
Four of those charged were scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Five others have been charged and released. They are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 22.
Abdulaziz Hezam Abdullah, 23, faces several charges, including possession of a firearm obtained by a crime, possession of a dangerous weapon, obstructing police and mischief. Police say Abdullah has no fixed address.
Eight others, all residents of Ottawa, are charged with obstructing police and mischief.
