LRT digging hits parking garage wall of Queen St. building

An LRT digging crew went through a wall beneath a building at O’Connor and Queen Streets on Wednesday.

The City of Ottawa says two rock bolts penetrated a parking garage underneath the Sun Life Financial.

Rock bolts are steel rods that are used to stabilize rock excavations.

There are no reported injuries. The City says there is no risk to the integrity of the building, and there was no damage to anything else in the garage.

The City says the Rideau Transit Group (RTG), the company behind the LRT tunnelling, is revising its tunnelling strategy, and RTG will pay for repairs.
