An Ottawa garbage crew was forced to scramble to safety Wednesday after a fire ignited in the back of their truck.

After noticing the burning trash, the dump truck driver dumped his load on St. Laurent Boulevard, east of the city's downtown core.

Firefighters suspect something flammable was likely tossed carelessly into the trash, causing the fire to spread quickly.

Officials are now investigating to determine if a chemical, such as paint thinner, may have been involved.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.
