Drivers who commute from Orleans to downtown could soon have a more manageable commute, according to the Ontario government.

Design work is currently underway to improve Highway 417 at the split. The plan is to widen the Queensway from Highway 174 to the core.

"The extra lane from the split to Nicholas Street will provide two full lanes for 174 westward joining Highway 417 and an exit lane for St. Laurent," Ottawa-Orleans MPP Phil McNeely told reporters on Friday.

The plan is still in the design phase.
