Deer goes for morning swim in Rideau Canal

Share

A deer took a stroll through Ottawa streets Monday morning.

The deer was spotted near Fifth Avenue at around 8:10 a.m., Ottawa police said.

At one point, it got into the Rideau Canal and went for a swim.

The Ottawa Fire Service was ready to perform a water rescue, but the deer was guided along the canal toward the south end of Dow's Lake.

The deer got out of the canal just after 9:45 a.m. Ottawa police said it returned to a park pathway off city streets, so officers disengaged.
