Motorists could be allowed to park longer on City of Ottawa streets without posted time limits..
The City of Ottawa is asking for feedback on a proposal to extend the current “3-Hour Parking Rule” to six hours on weekends and holidays.
Currently, motorists can park for a maximum of three consecutive hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on streets without posted parking rules. Most residential streets outside the downtown core area fall into this category.
The Transportation Committee asked staff to review the “3-Hour Parking Rule” in the City of Ottawa.
According to staff, all major municipalities have some form of unsigned on-street parking rule to regulate parking. Half of those cities have a three hour maximum time limit.
Under the city’s proposal, vehicles would be allowed to park for six consecutive hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on weekends and statutory holidays.
Residents can fill out the City of Ottawa’s feedback survey until August 22.
