The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario believes it will be able to balance its books without cutting programs or laying off staff.
The hospital plans to offset a $2.5-million shortfall by instead reducing administrative expenses. It will also sell some of the houses it owns on Smyth Road, which are currently used by out-of-town medical students.
Officials hope the measures will allow the hospital to balance its projected $210-million budget.
Meantime, the Ottawa Hospital is struggling to find ways to balance its budget. Last week, the hospital said it would need to eliminate 150 positions and freeze the salaries of its top executives.
By law, hospitals must balance their books every year.
