Five children were sent to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario after a chemical problem at a swimming pool in south Ottawa.

Ottawa police say the children started having breathing problems when a clamp broke on a pipe, causing chemicals used to treat the swimming pool to mix.

Paramedics treated the kids, who ranged in age from eight to 14 years old, before they were transported to hospital.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at a swimming pool near Cedarwood Drive and Baycrest Drive.

Police say all of the children are expected to recover.
