The Ottawa Senators are that much close to reaching the post season. Tonight they returned home to open a 3 game homestand. The Senators got off to a sluggish start only to comeback from a 2-0 defecit to beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2.
Senators rookie goalie Andrew Hammond made his 8th straight start. The Sabres open the scoring in the first period as Phil Varone surprises Hammond for a 1-0 lead. With 3 minutes left in the period, Tyler Ennis finds the five hole giving Buffalo a 2-0 lead.
Just 30 seconds into the 2nd period, Erik Karlsson gets credit for the Senators first goal of the game as it goes off Zach Bogosian and in to trail 2-1.
Early in the 3rd period the Senators charge back. Bobby Ryan sets up Mika Zibanejad with a beautiful backhanded pass to tie the game at 2. Zibanejad reaches a career high 17 goals this season. Just over a minute later, Marc Methot comes around the net going for the wraparound as Mark Stone finishes it off, giving Ottawa its first lead of the game, 3-2. That would stand up as the game winner.
Hammond made 24 saves for the victory. The Senators pull to within 3 points of a playoff spot.
Senators next host the Calgary Flames Sunday.
