Another sinkhole scare on Rideau St. appears to have been averted.
Ottawa police say a "small sinkhole" developed on Rideau St. in the same area as the massive sinkhole in June. The street was closed to buses and taxis from Sussex to Dalhousie as crews investigated.
On Twitter, councillor Mathieu Fleury says crews have been working on 25 boreholes in the area, apparently to help solidify the soil. The ground around one of those holes opened up, leaving a two-foot deep by one-foot wide "sink hole."
Crews filled the gap with concrete, correcting the issue. Fleury says it's not related to the sinkhole in June.
OC Transpo buses will continue to be detoured to the Mackenzie King bridge overnight Sunday. Rideau St. will reopen to vehicles on Monday morning.
