The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group has been hit with a $75,000 fine in connection with the stabbing of a nurse at the Brockville Mental Health Centre.
In October of 2014, a nurse was critically injured when a patient stabbed her multiple times with a pen after the patient left a washroom.
It was one of a series of incidents involving the patient, including assaults on other nurses.
An Ontario judge has ruled the Royal did not properly reassess the risks of workplace violence.
The judge says the Royal has a responsibility to properly protect its workers.
