4 youths facing charges following ‘multiple incidents’ in eastern Ontario: OPP

Four youths from eastern Ontario are facing multiple charges after they were involved in multiple incidents stretching from Smiths Falls to Cornwall, Ont. on New Year’s Day, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police say they received multiple calls Wednesday reporting a car, which had been reported stolen earlier, was driving dangerously in and around Smiths Falls.

That was when police attempted to stop the vehicle in Kemptville, Ont. However, the vehicle nearly struck a police officer, as the driver was trying to escape, police add.

The car came to a stop eventually when it ended up going off the road in the Spencerville area, according to police.

That was when police arrested the four youths. Police say officers found suspected drugs, alcohol and weapons in the car.

Two 15-year-old girls, a 15-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl have been charged with different and multiple charges, including possession of drugs, a weapon and property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The 15-year-old boy from Smiths Falls is facing additional charges, including dangerous driving and flight from police officer.

While two of the teenagers were held for bail hearings, the other two were released and are scheduled to appear in court at an unspecified date.

Police note that the youths are connected to earlier reports asking for help to locate missing teenagers in Smiths Falls.

The names of the four teenagers will not be released under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, adds the OPP.

The investigation is ongoing.
